ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A local veteran's business model is getting noticed for the way it helps the community.

One Community Auto has won the Vets Small Biz Challenge Award for best social venture. Owner Gary Peterson, a retired Air Force major, said he combines his passion for community service and cars.

His business has a program that takes donated cars for charity, refurbishes them and puts them on the lot. When they're sold, the charities get more money and the donor gets a higher tax deduction.

Peterson said the more support his business gives the community, the more it seems to prosper.

"I don't know what you want to call it – karma or good vibes or something – but you know like I said, the more we give, we just get more back."
